The Bench advised Maarah Holdings on its suite of agreements for the Corinthia Maldives, a luxury hospitality development featuring a lagoon in the Maldives spanning a total area of 28 hectares. Maarah Holdings is an investment, development and asset management company with a particular focus on hospitality real estate, including hotels, resorts, commercial and residential developments, infrastructure and logistics.
The luxury resort development consists of four reclaimed islands, boasting over 6 km of pristine sandy beaches, surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation. This flagship visionary project aims to set new standards for legacy luxury lifestyle, excellence and innovation in Maldives. The heart of the project lies on the two main islands, where two ultra-luxurious resorts will be developed. These resorts will feature less than 100 villas, targeting both families and couples on designated islands. An exclusive private island with two bespoke properties will provide the utmost privacy and serenity. Additionally, the fourth island will be dedicated exclusively to water sports, catering to the adventurous spirit of the resort's guests.
The Bench team was led by Legal Director Joby Beretta who commented: “It is always interesting to work on projects in the Maldives with its unique environmental issues (e.g. land reclamation) and regulatory framework (e.g. the leasehold regime and tourism laws). It was truly a delight to assist Rene and the Maarah management team with expanding their hospitality portfolio into South Asia.”’
Executive Chairman of Maarah Holding, Rene Beil, commented: "We thank Joby and his experienced professional team for their support in structuring and negotiating a complex suite of multi-jurisdictional agreements. The Bench has consistently demonstrated a practical, commercially focused approach and has added genuine value throughout the development of this milestone project.”
